The Smoke House Journey, BLR-KOL

Advertisements

The smoke house deli is a chain of exquisite food destination if you are looking for something different or fusion. With an elegant interior, these delis are mostly in the posh locality of Bangalore and Kolkata. I have been here quite a few times and my experience has been amazing.

Effort has been given to the fine detailing, set up and staff training to make this a perfect place for Sunday brunch.

My first visit to smoke house was at Kolkata and I was quite skeptical about the pricing. Although it is on par with some luxury dining, it has the fusion of laid back cafe to it.

Located on fifth floor of quest mall, this place has both indoor and outdoor seating that emanates a classy ambience. The only quibble about outdoor seating is the “noise” , every time neighbor- “the Irish house” door opens.

With a warm welcome and complementary bread sticks accompanying mustard butter /plain butter we settled in and started browsing the menu and lined up the following:

Smoked salmon bruschetta

A good start to our meal. Rather a decent one. Bit over-priced, yes “salmon” of-course, but still.

Smoked salmon Bruschetta

Kaffir lime risotto with chicken chunks

An aromatic risotto seasoned with kaffir lime leaves, chicken chunks, bread crumbs, few veggies and dusted with smidgen of herbs. It was good and served really hot. I suggest waiting some time before gorging 😀

Cambodian Basa with pimento puree

Star of the day. From an artistic representation to the taste, everything was just sublime here. This is something that would definitely swoon you over. With a stark contrast of orange on white, the perfectly cooked fish is placed on bed of mashed potatoes and veggies. Prior to this I had no idea on how pimento puree would taste like.

Cambodian Basa

So, the fish melting in your mouth and leaving behind the mildly hot buttery sauce taste will definitely get your money worth.

Bitter chocolate and orange ganache

Was expecting a soft and squidgy pastry with hot ganache but found something harder here. Although, the bitterness of dark chocolate and tangy hit of orange flavor gave it a decent tang. Something like the Amul dark chocolate with orange.

Tiramishu

Well, it was OK. I’ve had better.

Overall had a delightful experience and hence SHD is highly recommended. Their repertoire in the menu would certainly demand your second visit. And my 2nd visit was destined to be at Bangalore- Indiranagar.

Well lit and multi floor sitting arrangement, this place was certainly better than kolkata set up.

Cream Mushroom Omelette

 Cream mushroom omelette

Perfectly articulated on a white plate, this was divine. Once you cut through the layer of mushroom cream to the thick omelet, you will realize how luscious combines with precision and finesse. Dusted with smidgen of herbs, chef’s final touch on presentation is accompanied with a bread, hash brown and roasted tomato.

Market vegetables black olive croquetas

Small bread crumb fried food stuffed with some veggies. Not so much recommended.

Grilled mushroom + Bearnaise corstini

Grilled mushroom toasted with cheese and topped over corstini will give a crunchy yet soft start to your appetizer.

Smoked lamb burger

This has to be the best burger I have eaten so far and certainly the priciest one as well. With 410 bucks one could be bit skeptical about it. But, once the gigantic thing arrives it will all be worth. The best part – fresh, tender, juicy lamb patty which melts in mouth. And when the patty wins the battle the burger wins it all. Accompanied with french fries and salad, but no one will care

Smoked salmon cream cheese

A brown bread sandwich stuffed with few veggies layers of smoked salmon and cheese. Failed to impress.

Cheesy Alfredo pasta fettuccine

Classic fettuccine pasta with white sauce and veggies. Everything that comes from a pasta dish is from its sauce and certainly this creamy white sauce made its mark with the muster.

Cambodian Basa with smoked pimento pure

Yes, had to be ordered again. And as expected it was delightful as it was in Kolkata. This time with a better daylight photo.

Roasted almond Ganache torte

Intoxicatingly chocolaty, merged with almonds, this is accompanied with a scoop of classic vanilla ice cream.

Philly and plum cheese cake

Smooth, soft and all how a cheese cake feels like. Note: both the deserts don’t go well together.

To conclude, this place will  definitely create an impression and delivers an experience that lasts long.
